Your state association's primary function is advocacy, with most state associations located in capitol cities. In addition many states offer benefits such as buying discounts, education, forms, and other tech tools. Visit your state association website to learn more.

State associations have the unique benefit of offering the Graduate REALTOR® Institute. In today's competitive business environment, it often takes more than just motivation and initiative to succeed. Earning the Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation is a way to stand out to prospective home buyers and sellers as a REALTOR® who has gained in-depth knowledge on technical subjects as well as the fundamentals of real estate.

Check in with the state's regulatory blog often to learn about important issues that impact the real estate market. In addition the AAR publishes a monthly newsletter Capitol News & Notes which follows legislative progress in the industry.
AAR has worked hard to "prime" the market through its legislative efforts. One of its accomplishments is the Alabama First Time Home Buyers Savings Account.
This new resource in Alabama is exclusively for first-time buyers or those reentering the housing market if you haven’t owned a home in the last 10 years.

Individuals or couples can open one of these tax-free savings accounts at any local bank, credit union or other financial institution in Alabama. The principal deposits and earnings will be deductible on your state income taxes. Savings from the account can be used to pay for the down payment and/or closing costs for the purchase of a single-family dwelling.
