The tools you need to succeed in the real estate industry
Your Local Association
Your Local Association is Your Fast Track to Business Success
Your first step in becoming a REALTOR® is contacting your local association, MAAR. MAAR will accept and process your membership application for the local, state and national association. You will receive a NRDS (National REALTOR® Database System) number. This identifier will be used throughout your career in real estate. Your local association will generate this number for you but if you cannot remember it you can always look it up here.
Your Local Association Pathways to Success
Education & Training
Whether online or live, your local association will typically provide access to continuing education (CE) and training. It is critical to the success of your business that you invest in your own education. Experts recommend setting aside 10% of your business revenue for self-education. It is imperative that you educate yourself beyond the minimum state requirement of CE. Click here to view upcoming classes.

Advocacy
Your local association works every day to clear the way for your ease of business, from working with local legislators to ensure signage ordinances are reasonable to much larger issues such as keeping property taxes low, we are your constant advocate.

Tools
Contact us or visit the association website to learn all the tools available to you. Before you purchase software and apps, contact your local association to learn if the same or similar products are available for free within your MLS or free/reduced price through your association.

At MAAR you have complete control of your membership through the IMS (Internet Membership Services) View schedules of upcoming events, committee meetings and classes, check your education and committee history, register for an event or class, pay an invoice or statement, all through IMS. VERY IMPORTANT, never ignore a text/email or pop-up that says you have not paid. You do not want your services disrupted! If you receive this notice go into IMS and navigate to MAAR invoices/MLS invoices and Key invoice. Here you will be able to pay and offer the best service to your clients and customers.

MLS Tools
MAAR offers a state of the art Multiple Listings Service platform full of tools for your success. As part of REALTOR® New Member Orientation you will be required to complete MLS Orientation training and technical training. MAAR offers an online option for both. Click here to access the MLS Orientation and here for the technical training.

Safety Tools
MAAR is committed to your success and safety. We offer three tools to ensure you are protected when out on showings and open houses. Forewarn is a mobile app provided by your association. It completes a criminal background search on your clients and customers. Your Supra membership also includes Agent Alert, this is a convenient feature built into your Supra key on your phone. From your app, you can press a button for a simple and discreet method to send an alert to up to three priority contacts you select in advance. MAAR also offers an Agent Identification Form and a Prospect Identification Form for your use. Make sure to identify your prospect by taking a photocopy of their drivers license, state ID or passport to attach to the form.

Professional Standards Administration
MAAR staff fields calls each week regarding perceived violations of the Code of Ethics or commission disputes, and provides the required paperwork for members and the public to file formal complaints. The Grievance process includes due process procedures, allowing all parties an opportunity to present evidence and testimony during a hearing Local associations save you legal fees by offering mediation and arbitration services. We are able to help you understand commission disputes before you spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars, on attorney fees. Finally, we administer ethics hearings to keep our industry at the highest standards.

Industry Insights
Your association's MLS produces multiple market reports for your use. In addition, every REALTOR® has access to the REALTORS® Property Resource (RPR). RPR produces multiple customized market reports that are branded to you. These reports include ESRI data, demographics down to a zip code, and even what businesses are needed in an area.

Your association also provides other communication vehicles that provide information on business trends, market trends, and information about association events and education.

Networking
Association networking is a phenomenal business asset that is often underutilized and undervalued. Why network with other association members? Interacting with successful members is a pathway to your success in the industry. We become those we surround ourselves with. You will meet industry providers (affiliates) and learn when they have zero down programs or other incentives. REALTORS® refer to other REALTORS® they know, and finally, meeting other members will ease doing business with them.

REALTOR® conventions and conferences are big part of REALTOR® life and offer great opportunities to develop referral networks, meet with state and national representative and legislators, as well as enjoy spending time with other REALTORS® and attend high caliber educational programs. Each year the Alabama Association of REALTORS® holds a variety of meetings and conventions that are packed with education and opportunities to get to know your colleagues from around the state. The National Association of REALTORS® holds two meetings annually.

Leadership Opportunities
A benefit that is available is the opportunity to become a leader in the industry through board or committee service. By serving the association, you learn volumes about your industry and your own capabilities. Check your board website for committee and board opportunities.

MAAR has several opportunities to serve. COMMITTEES are the backbone of the Association and members are encouraged to join a committee and get involved! CLICK FOR EACH COMMITTEE. This is a member run organization. New committee members are accepted every October for the following year. The MLS and MAAR both have committees.
